Similarly, apple too is an effective medicine. Apples are rich in minerals like iron and phosphate. Patients suffering from Crohn's Disease and Ulcerative Colitis can be given boiled apple. Papaya is also very good for the treatment of Colitis and Crohn's. You may eat ripe papaya or you can drink its juice.
In the intial stages of the Specific Carbohydrate DietTM or if you are not following the diet and are going through a flare-up, it's best to cook the fruit. You can add a little honey to sweeten. Cooked fruit is easier to digest than raw fruit.
I find fruit juices are lovely and refreshing when mixed with sparkling water. Copella do great apple juices, applle and elderflower, apple and mango, and plain apple and these are widely available in Ireland, Dunnes, Supervalu and even Lidl stock them. They are SCD legal and taste great!
Be careful with orange juice though as some people do not tolerate it very well, best to dilute with water and not to drink it in the morning.
